Adrian Chan

UX Lead & Manager at Deloitte

Adrian Chan is a leading thinker of the social uses and practices around social media, a field he calls "social interaction design." A manager and User Experience lead at Deloitte Consulting, Adrian is helping to build Deloitte Digital's UX San Francisco resources. Adrian brings depth and breadth of design practice as well as thought leadership to consumer and enterprise application design. He also brings creativity and experience insights to companies in a number of industries, including technology, consumer, entertainment and media, and social media. Prior to joining Deloitte, Adrian ran his own consultancy to social and web companies as Gravity7, consulting to many social media startups as well as companies implementing social media strategies. He was Senior Fellow with the Society of New Communications Research (SNCR.org). Adrian has over 15 years as a web developer and social media specialist. He won awards for sites and product in each, as well as in multimedia.

Adrian's approach to social interaction design is a unique blend of conventional design methodologies and social theories. In describing how individual user experiences lead to sticky social practices, he uses basic communication and social interaction principles. He applies these as a means of providing client advice and of avoiding pitfalls. He is a keen observer of social interactions and a long-time student of the psychological and personal interests that motivate social action and communication. Adrian has developed his approach to social interaction design at his site, in papers and slideshows, and on his blog. Adrian graduated from Stanford University with honors in 1988, and earned a fellowship for one year of study in Berlin. He is based in San Francisco, California.
